<p>On 27th June, 2019 <a title="Cpanel announcement" href="https://blog.cpanel.com/announcing-account-based-pricing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cPanel announced</a> a massive price increase in the cost of cPanel license starting 1st September, 2019 that took the web hosting industry by surprise. In addition to the price increase, they have also changed their pricing model.</p> <p>Previously, it was possible to purchase a single license and assign it to a server but they will be changing to a new license pricing which is based on the number of cpanel accounts hosted on a server.</p> <p><strong>What are the implications?</strong></p> <p>With the previous licensing model, we were paying for a single license which enabled us to invest in additional hardware and other productivity and security tools that makes a comfortable and sound hosting experience. This way, we were able to reduce our operation costs and extend this to offering low cost prices in our product offerings.</p> <p>However, with the new Account based cpanel licensing, our cost of operations will be increasing by more that 100%, with the cost of cPanel licenses contributing the major part of our operation costs.</p> <p>If we continue with our current prices and offerrings, coupled with the current state of the dollar-cedis exchange rate, it will not be sustainable for us to continue and remain in operation.</p> <p>As a result, we are informing you that we will be making changes and restructuring our packages. Further information will be sent in the next few days.</p> <p><strong>Shared Hosting</strong></p> <p>Effect immediately, we are dropping the free domain renewals</p> <p>Shared hosting package features and prices will be reviewed with addition of new features, although we do not anticipate a very huge price increase. </p> <p>We are also considering deploying a new alternative control Panel to replace CPanel or in addition to cPanel to give customers the option to choose between CPanel or another control panel.</p> <p><strong>Reseller Hosting</strong></p> <p>Until now, there had not been any limits placed on the number of accounts a reseller can create and resellers could create any number of accounts per their package. With the huge per-account-based price increase from cPanel, however, the current reseller hosting plans will be discontinued. We will be introducing new reseller packages and give existing resellers the option to migrate to the new packages.</p> <p><strong>VPS Packages</strong></p> <p>Prices of VPS packages will remain unchanged. Only VPS packages that use cPanel/WHM will be affected. The new license cost will be based on the number of cpanel accounts on a VPS. This will affect all licenses that have already been purchased as they will be converted to the new account based licenses.
